I was a counselor at a creative writing summer camp for teens this summer and lunch and dinner in the dining hall were shocking! The kids barely spoke to each other - they were just on their phones the whole time!
I think that's the difficult part too— cause people (me at least) want to create conversation but it's so difficult to be the one to put down a phone and start it.
genuinely i believe this is part of the reason why recent movie dialogue sucks. people don’t know how real conversations work, and they don’t spend enough time having them to understand how to make them worthwhile. let alone entertaining lmao
i totally agree like it feels so overly scripted. i also hate when characters will have a super important conversation over texts or even call sometimes cause it never feels as significant
that’s the worst. plus the marvel effect has made all conversations some super explicit plot device with more clever quips and formulaic responses than actual talking. a real pain did an amazing job with the dialogue, i’d recommend watching that if you haven’t yet. a cool part is they incorporate phones without making it some meaningless and lazy thing they just also have conversations on. really cool movie, modern classic imo.
